The Center for Bioinformatics Research (CBR) brings together researchers from across Indiana University who work at the intersection of computing, biology, and medicine. Housed in the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, CBR faculty and students conduct research in areas including evolution and comparative genomics, cancer genomics, genome privacy, mass spectrometry and proteomics, metagenomics, precision medicine, predictive functional genomics, and structural bioinformatics. The Center was founded in 2009.
Artificial intelligence is increasingly central to our research. Many CBR researchers develop and apply AI models to address challenging biological and biomedical problems. At the same time, AI-assisted and agentic coding are transforming how research is conducted, enabling our students to develop computational tools, analyze complex biological data, and explore new ideas more rapidly and ambitiously than ever before.
